Information

Our in-class workshops are ideal for children from Kindergarten through to grade 6. Many workshops are accompanied by a Teacher Resource Package to help educators maximize the learning experience before and after each Mad Science workshop.

Here are just a few of our fun and interactive workshops that focus on science and engineering practice:

Magnetic Magic

Teaches: Force, Motion, Energy
Students will investigate the powers and daily uses of magnets! In this class, the children will learn about polarity, will visualize magnetic fields, and see how a compass is made. They will even use invisible magnetic fields to levitate magnets!

Harnessing Heat

Teaches: Force, Motion, Energy
(Requires Electricity): Fast moving molecules are the main attraction in this exploration of energy and heat. Children will see Boyle’s law in action, as we show how air behaves when heated or cooled, and will also learn the role heat plays in phase changes. To wrap it all up, the children will partake in the tasty miracle of science we know as Cotton Candy.

Electricity

Teaches: Force, Motion, Energy
This workshop introduces students to the fundamental concepts of electricity: circuits, conductors, insulators, and how electricity is converted for everyday uses. Students get to create different circuits, interact with plasma balls, discover “sticky” static electricity and make their own static energy chambers to take home.

Ecosystems

Teaches: Living Systems
Students learn about the interconnections that exist between all living things in an ecosystem, including humans. The nature cycles, food chains and energy webs (producers, consumers and decomposers) within different environments are explored before we make mini-ecosystems that students can observe in class for a month.

Matter of Fact

Teaches: States of matter, polymers
In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of chemistry. They will construct their own marshmallow molecules and learn to distinguish between physical & chemical changes like true scientists! To finish up, children are introduced to the basics of polymers and get to make their very own polymer putty to take home!
